Welcome
Every Marion Swimming Club member is valued, and it is our aim that they are provided every possible opportunity to realise their dreams and potential in competitive swimming.
Marion Swimming Club offers the environment, structure, facilities and opportunities for all levels of competitive swimming. It promotes swimmers establishing and realising their swimming goals and developing valuable life skills, disciplines and habits to assist their life in and out of the pool.
Marion has a proud past with swimmers competing at State, National and Olympic levels. Others compete successfully at local carnivals and achieve great satisfaction at their chosen level. With such a diverse membership, swimmers also participate interstate and nationally in Surf Life Saving, Royal Life Saving and triathlons.
Marion is family. We actively promote a family atmosphere, encouraging a healthy mix of social activity and fun. From the very young to the young at heart, members of all ages relate together in a family friendly environment. Parents play an integral role in their child’s sporting life. Marion is a club for its members, managed by its members. Parents and swimmers alike share a commitment to the success of the Club through a wide range of activities such as fund-raising, helping at carnivals, and officiating.
A proud past and now an exciting future. Marion is the home of swimming in South Australia and the Marion Swimming Club is determined to play an integral role in growing the sport of competitive swimming. The national and international stage is now on our doorstep and we are strategically positioning ourself to ensure our swimmers maximise their opportunities in swimming.
Marion - The Home of Swimming
History
The Marion Swimming Club was established in 1979 to serve the wider Marion community and was the youngest club to be awarded ‘Club of the Year’ by the state governing body, Swim SA. It first won the coveted award in 1982, just three years after the Club's formation and has since won this award on a number of occasions with the latest being in 2005 and 2006.
The Club has a proud past with swimmers competing at State, National, Commonwealth and Olympic Levels including, Hall of Fame Members, Glenn Beringen, Olympic and Commonwealth Games Silver Medallist, and Martin Roberts, Olympian, Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist. Top swimmers are mentored by top coaches and Marion has a history of quality coaches of the calibre of Arthur Ballantyne, Lynda Lehmann, Ross Price, Glenn Beringen and now international coach, Paul Dennis. Today Marion is currently the second largest club in South Australia and is aiming to develop the next wave of Australia’s champions and rise to the top of swimming.
Marion has a history of developing swimming at all levels. Since its inception, Marion has partnered with our community to take competitive swimming to local schools and community groups. The highly successful Marion Primary Schools Carnival program that commenced in the early 80s is one such program. Currently a new format is being developed to link with stakeholders in the aquatic education and surf sectors across south-western Adelaide.
In recognition of outstanding performance at all levels, Marion Swimming Club is currently the only club in South Australia to be awarded Go Club PB Gold status by Swimming Australia. However, Marion Swimming Club is not content to rest upon its laurels and is firmly committed to making new history. As the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre is located within the City of Marion, Marion Swimming Club aims to be the ‘Home of Swimming’.
